As it comes to that time of year where students are counting down to the end of term and planning their move to their next venture, it also comes with the dreaded time to pack up your belongings. Whatever your circumstances, whether you are moving home, to another accommodation, or if you have finished university completely, this time of year can be stressful for everyone involved. So, we have put together some handy tips to help your move run as smoothly as possible! Firstly, find out when your tenancy ends and plan around it. Most landlords send reminders about your tenancy end date and the moving out procedure, but this will also be visible on your contract. Ensure you have plenty of time in the lead up to this tenancy end date to be organised! Second, create a moving checklist. Things you need to do, things you may need to buy/sell, and things to pack up. It can also help to break up your packing list into sections so you know which items are in which box. Third, sell any unwanted stuff that you will no longer need. This can be a great way to fund your future plans, and there are various online services which make this a fairly easy process. Depop, Vinted, Facebook Marketplace and eBay are some good examples. Next, clean! Whether you are living alone or with housemates, you must all chip in and make sure the accommodation is left in a good condition or you may be charged for this. It's also best to report any damages to your landlord before you move out, they are more likely to be understanding if you tell them rather than them finding it later! Finally, pack all your items into clearly labelled boxes/bags and ensure you have transport arranged to get your items to wherever you are going next. Once you are organised, make sure you hand all keys back to your landlord!
